How Our Family Turned a One-Night Hotel Stay Into the Sweetest Holiday Adventure

As a mom of three little ones, I love making the holidays magical — but I’ll be the first to admit that sometimes the logistics can steal a little of that magic away. If you live in the suburbs like we do in Prosper, the idea of driving 40 minutes downtown for a holiday event (and then turning around and driving back late at night with three half-asleep kids) can feel… intimidating.
This year, instead of letting the stress win, we decided to do something different.
We traded the long drive for a Christmas staycation, and it ended up being one of the best decisions we made all season.
Invited to the Coca-Cola Classic Christmas Experience

Our family was invited to the Coca-Cola Classic Christmas Experience — a truly magical holiday event filled with lights, music, and joyful Christmas nostalgia.
If you’re curious about what the event looks like, you can watch the highlight reel here:

Because the event takes place in downtown Dallas and runs into the evening, we decided to turn the entire night into a festive adventure instead of rushing back home afterward.
And that’s where our staycation came in…
Why We Chose Hilton Dallas Lincoln Centre for Our Staycation

We stayed at the beautifully updated Hilton Dallas Lincoln Centre, located just minutes from the Galleria. The biggest selling point for our family?
It’s less than 1 mile from the Coca-Cola Classic Christmas venue.
That meant:
- No late-night drive with sleepy kids
- No fighting highway traffic
- No struggling to transfer them into beds at home
- No losing the holiday magic the moment we got back in the car
Instead, we ended the night cozied up in a warm, comfortable hotel room — and honestly, it made the whole experience even more special.

The Joy of a Staycation for Kids
If you’ve never done a staycation with young children during the holidays, I cannot recommend it enough. Kids think hotels are magical — even without ever leaving the room.
Our three walked into the space wide-eyed and excited. And Hilton made it incredibly easy for a family of five:
Two adjoining rooms
A crib already set up and waiting for Selah
Plenty of space for everyone
A safe, comfortable home base for the night
It felt like a tiny vacation without the stress or cost of traveling far.
Creating Christmas Magic in the Hotel Room
To make the night feel extra special, I did what every mom does best — added a little holiday sparkle of my own.
A quick trip to Dollar Tree gave me everything I needed:
- Festive Christmas stockings
- Their matching Christmas pajamas
- Buckets filled with holiday goodies
- Small treats and surprises for each child
As soon as we checked in, I laid out their stockings on the beds in their room:
Matching PJs inside
Their holiday candy buckets in front of the TV
Twinkle-light energy everywhere
It set the tone for the entire night and gave the kids the sweetest surprise when they walked in.
Breakfast at H Bar the Next Morning
The next morning, we enjoyed breakfast at H Bar, located right in the lobby.
They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but breakfast was exactly what we needed to start the day slow after a big night out.
Coffee and mimosas for the adults…
Waffles and eggs for the kids…
And an omelette station that was a huge hit.
It was the perfect, relaxing end to our Christmas adventure.
Why Staycations Are the Secret to Holiday Magic
Doing a downtown staycation helped us:
- Enjoy the holiday lights and events without stress
- Make real family memories
- Let the kids feel like they were on a “big trip”
- Save money (no flights, no long road trips)
- Explore the city we often forget has so much to offer
- Stretch one evening into an entire experience
With simple planning and a hotel that understands families, the holidays suddenly become a lot more manageable — and a lot more joyful.
Plan Your Family’s Christmas Adventure
If you’re looking for a holiday outing that feels magical and doable (especially with little ones), consider turning your next festive evening into a staycation. It gives you the fun of a getaway without the stress of actually “getting away.”
